In the early hours of the morning last night, my dad was feeling uncomfortable for some reason because he kept coughing. I got up to help him. I came up close to his face, looked into his eyes and said, "Dad, do you want me to lie next to you?" To my surprise, he nodded and said in Vietnamese, "Ờ" which means yes. A few seconds later I asked again by whispering into his ear to see if could say anything, and to my surprise again, he nodded and spoke louder in Vietnamese, "Ờ ờ". I did ask a third time, but he didn't/couldn't say anything. Then I set up a spot so I could to lie next to him. He fell asleep shortly after and did not cough for the rest of the night.

Today I decided to do three sets of pushups after going for a 30-minute walk in the neighborhood with a friend. My dad was at home all by himself and I was a bit anxious. Right before leaving, I told my dad where I was going and to watch the house until I get back. I thought he was asleep as I was heading back, but as soon as my friend and I stepped through the door he had his eyes wide open looking at us. He even crossed his legs and seemed to be alert. I had music playing in the background with the TV screen showing a slideshow of family photos.
