For the past two semesters, I've been volunteering at a local college to work with ESL students, helping them with their English skills. Some of the students who came in were actually my students, although I did not give them extra credit for showing up. It's been fun as I got to chat and know more about the people who were newcomers to the US. It was a commitment of two hours every week. There were times when I had to work around my schedule to make sure I didn't miss a single session. One time I was even asked by a staff member if I could switch with someone because he couldn't come in due to a medical procedure.
Although my contribution has been quite productive in being part of the community, I think it's time that I move on to better things. This will probably be my last semester volunteering in the lab. I have once met Jerry, one of the volunteers. Jack, I've talked to quite often. He is a retired teacher/principal and recently moved to OC several years ago. He is 81 years old this year, and according to him, he had perfect health, which is very nice.
